Mr. Scruff - Ninja Tuna (2008)

30 09 2008

“From the soul-jazz of “Music Takes Me Up” (featuring the golden lungs of Alice Russell), through the cartoonish tail-swishing of “Donkey Ride”, on into the monstrous bass parps of “Whiplash,” past a superb cameo from Roots Manuva (“Nice Up The Function,”) and across the bit where the bass comes back and is Stronger And More […]

Bonobo - Flutter (ZENCDS147)(2003)

24 04 2008

At 18, he moved to Brighton where he released his debut album Animal Magic on the Tru Thoughts label in 2000. With this album, completely self-produced and mainly self-instrumented, he became one of the “new downtempo pioneers” and his chilled, beat-driven music captivated press as well as many major labels.

In 2001, Bonobo decided to sign for Ninja Tune and in 2003, after one album of remixes on Tru Thoughts in 2002, he released Dial ‘M’ For Monkey. In 2005, Bonobo contributed to the Solid Steel series, with his Bonobo Presents Solid Steel: “It Came From The Sea”, the release date was scheduled for October 10, 2005, but was released a week early, the mix features several exclusive tracks as well as remixes and re-edits. Later that year, “Pick up” and “Flutter” from the Dial ‘M’ For Monkey album, were featured in the popular snowboard game SSX on Tour.

Latest single from Simon Bonobo’s ‘Dial ‘M’ For Monkey’ album. After the indian hazy summer trip out of ‘Flutter’ it’s straight to the main course. Kieran Hebden drops an incredible remix of ‘Pick Up’. Hypnotic double bass pulses mix with blasts of free jazz, electronic melodies and hypermad drum rolls, like Max Roach alive and kicking in 1965. Incredible stuff. Finally you get an extended version of ‘Something For Windy’ with background whistles and chirps behind an indie post rock beat arrangement. Needed for the 7 min Fourtet mix. Believe.

Tracklist :

A1 Flutter
A2 Something (Longer) For Windy
B1 Pick Up (Fourtet Mix)
